After my trip to South America in August and September 2018, our peace project started on 3rd of November 2018 in the museum. We want to bring together a group who are interested in building peace in Gillingham and Medway. Dates of workshops can be found below.

  • 3 and 26 November 2018
  • 1 and 15 December 2018
  • 12 and 26 January 2019
  • 9 and 23 February 2019
  • 2, 16 and 30 March 2019
  • 27 April 2019
  • 4 and 25 May 2019
  • 1 and 15 June 2019
  • 6 and 20 July 2019
  • Patterns for peace by Tinal Lawlor Mottram opens in the musueum.
  • August to October workshop dates to be confirmed.

Our aim is to explore the theme of peace, building on connections already made with the Peace March group and other participants at a free taster workshop in the museum in May.
We intend to exhibit the best of the artwork in 2019 so if you are interested in finding peace in yourself and spreading it into our community, please come along. Looking for optimists, writers, artists, people who love knitting or sewing – anybody who believes that by spreading some happiness we can all benefit?
The group will meet regularly in the museum, every second week for a year. We are very grateful for sponsorship and use of the Education Room in the Royal Engineers Museum.
We will draw, paint and create images of peace: places people love, imaginary spaces we escape to, actual places where people enjoy feeling at peace. We will use photographs, printing and 3D work to make an exhibition of people’s work.
We want to build a group and join other initiatives in Medway towards avoiding violence and war and building a peace that comes from within.
