Libraries in Medway offer artists the chance to exhibit their work and run artist workshops with local people. Full Circle was run a local group of artists working with recycled material to engage the community to think about how much waste we create and try to use it in ways to make visual statements that people would engage with.
Redefined showed works from Nikhil and Tina Lawlor Mottram and aimed to engage visitors to think about waste.
The Tree of Signs re-used a street sign and the rainbow overhead made a cascade of colourful mobiles to interest younger viewers.
The Tree of Signs took a corner of the exhibition, creating a moving overhead rainbow on a found, re-modelled road sign.
Hubcap Series
The hubcab series was a comment on the many spare ones rolling around our highways and roads. As a non-driver, Tina Lawlor Mottram collected 3 in the weeks before the exhibition and created moulded paper artwork to hold a broken, discarded hubcap and give it some new life. Its redefinition was that it reminded everybody of the workers in the factory who made it. A visitor remarked “This one looks like the hubcap maker in the factory.”
